Does anyone know where I can find some...quickly? I'd prefer pillars, but tapers/votives will do in a pinch. I've looked online and they seem quite pricey. Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays!

So this morning our cat, Lewis, decides to give himself a full grooming while snuggled right up against me. I laid there thinking he'd be done in a couple of minutes. But noooo...he keeps grooming and grooming and grooming. Finally I sat up and said, "Sweetie, I know you're a cat and you're just doing a cat thing, but take your bath elsewhere. It's annoying." All the while I was speaking he was looking up at me like, "Oh. Am I really bothering you?" And then he laid down with his head tucked under with an expression that said, "Okay. I'll be cute now."

Adorable.

This morning I discovered the following group on Facebook;

http://www.themarryingkind.org/

Having read it has created very mixed feelings for me. As a married gay man who has no federal recognition and therefore no federal benefits with my marriage, I am aggravated to no end about this matter...especially in the wake of H8 in California for example. And yet I think back to last June when I had the great honor of co-officiating at a wedding. The occasion meant far more than just being able to unite two wonderful people in marriage. It resonated on a deeply personal and spiritual level as well. Those things noted...what do I do? I am an activist at heart and yet how am I to say "No" to someone else who may request such an honor from me? And how could I refuse to attend the wedding of religious colleagues? I understand boycotts and the reasons behind them. I also understand that every American citizen should have the same rights. And yet, how do I reconcile these things with my religious duties and sentiments?

Quandary. Quandary. Quandary

The following petition is geared towards asking the government to review the 501(c)(3) status of The Church of Latter-day Saints (The Mormons). They are the largest contributing factor to the negative marketing used to support Proposition 8. They do not have the right to mix church and state. Please sign the petition.

Greetings everyone and Lammas Blessings to those of you who celebrate.

This is just a brief post to explain my long absence from here and elsewhere. In short, work has been so high stress...especially with the plethora of phone calls...that once I leave for the day I am drained and have little energy for much else. Some of you have called and/or emailed and received little or no response. Please know that this in no way reflects on you. This Lammastide has also been the occasion to reflect on how things were a year ago. We are just now finally experiencing some cycling out of that very bad time. Hopefully the next few weeks will show some promise of improving...especially with a very much-needed vacation happening.

Thank you for having read this far. Know that you are each a blessing to my/our lives.

Did you hear about the speech by the Oklahoma State Representative, where she says gays are worse than terrorists?

The speech was secretly taped, and it was just released on the Internet. She says, among other incredibly offensive things, that:

- "The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation."
- "No society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted for more than, you know, a few decades."
- "What's happening now is they're going after, in schools, 2-year-olds"

This is dangerous and unacceptable behavior from an elected leader, especially when anti-GLBT hate crimes are on the rise. Will you take a moment to take action? Just go to

http://www.hrcactioncenter.org/campaign/ok_rep_sally_kern_cen

to send a letter to Oklahoma's governor and top lawmakers asking them to condemn these remarks.

Thank you!

This was on a thread on another site. Enjoy.

The Government today announced that it is changing its emblem from an Eagle to a condom, because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance.
A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pr*cks, and gives you a sense of security while you are actually being screwed!

Senator Obama,

The following is a comment from your blog concerning the issue of marriage equality. Please read it with a truly open and understanding mind:

"The United States has a powerful idea, that has served us well, called separating Church and State. We developed it for exactly this kind of deep disagreement about what is or is not a sin.

Separation of Church and State does not mean we give up our religious beliefs. It means we choose not to impose our religious beliefs on others.

I am Jewish; I don't eat pork. But I don't try to make pork illegal, because I don't believe you need to share my understanding of the Bible for us to share this country together.

It would be disrespectful for me to try to impose my religion and its laws on you. We live together under American law, not under Jewish law or Christian law.

You (and others) can personally oppose homosexuality but still support gay marriage. Gay marriage does not mean marriage *in your church*. It means marriage *at the courthouse*. What happens in your church is between you and G-d. What happens at the courthouse is between you and me.

Countries where people impose their religious beliefs on others have religious wars. They have religious police, who force people to pray. They kill people who disagree with them about G-d.

That's not America.

The courthouse is a place where all citizens should have the same rights and responsibilities -- Jewish, Christian, Muslim, gay, straight, Evangelical, Catholic, and more.

If I meet someone at his church, I may be a sinner. But if I meet that same person at the courthouse, we are both citizens of a great country. And as a fellow *citizen*, I expect every Christian in America to support my right to marry.

Democracy is about equality for everyone, not just the people you agree with. Sometimes, you may even find yourself standing up for the rights of sinners."

Too much sectarian religious expression has tainted this campaign...the kind which has sought and continues to seek denying me and my husband full civil rights as citizens. We need a leader who cannot be swayed by those who would impose their religious views by enacting laws which accommodate only their views.

All that said, we are likely to vote with our feet and emigrate by the time the next administration term has ended...because, just like Rosa Parks, we refuse to sit at the back of the bus.

Thank you, Senator Obama, for your time and consideration.

We live...

...in tempestuous times.

An elderly, old guard Republican has won the party nomination.

It is up in the air as to who the Democratic nominee will be...hopefully Hillary *fingers crossed*

This country is so going to Hell in a hand basket: can we say 2nd American Civil War? which will be fought along socio-economic-religious lines? which we will not be here to witness due to expatriation?

The whole damn era/phase/transition/fill-in-the-blank feels like the birth pangs before major change...for the better I hope.

Ok. I'm done...for now.

...to announce the impending hiring of this crazy gay witch into a permanent position where I've been temping.

Now...here's the deal. I want to decorate this one wall with something decidely witchy, but hidden in the open...so-to-speak. I've tried looking at tapestries but the really good ones are simply above budget. A broom was considered but it is an office. I've looked at wall art until my eyes are about to fall out.

Suggestions anyone?

Okey dokey.

I'm looking for a good deal on some long cinnamon sticks...say about 6 to 10 inches. Do any of you delightful folks know where some could be acquired?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cheers!
