Love Outshines Fear
Nov. 2nd, 2005 04:44 pmToday I received a forwarded email which, like others forwarded, contained the threat of some sort of personal tragedy if not fully read, etc. While I do believe the intent was good, the message warranted a response to set things straight. We all deserve a better perspective. Below is my reply.
"Recently I've received several emails of this very sort and I find people's obsession with the fear of personal disaster disturbing.
Frankly I don't buy into the whole negative, "read this or else something awful will happen to you," crap. While some people may mean well, the whole fear motive is something which I outgrew...a relic best left in my fundamentalist churchianity past.
The fact that these kinds of messages receive wide circulation says a great deal more about those who obsess over these things than the actual messages themselves. How much better it would be if we all widely circulated messages which focus on love, support, and strength and gratitude in the Divine. A half full glass is better than a half empty one any day.
Just my two cents."
