Today is one of recovery from last week and last night...in that order. Our friend Cindy came over for her birthday celebration yesterday...an evening of complete decadence, to say the least. Appetizers consisted of bleu and cheddar cheeses layered together in a single wedge in conjunction with L'Del de Claron, a french cheese packaged in birch bark, both served with Carr's crackers; and alfonzo olives...a delicious, wine-soaked delicacy. Cocktails served with the first course were French Connections...a delightful blend of Lillet Blonde, with seltzer and orange essence, garnished with fresh orange slices...referred to by us as "summer in a glass." From there we segued into fresh, homemade sushi in three varieties: smoked salmon; shrimp and roasted red pepper; and California rolls for the vegetarian effect. As for wines served from this point forward... I honestly wasn't paying that much attention. Suffice it to say that we had a white bordeaux, Chateau Tieuly, I believe, along with another excellent, fruity, white wine. At one point, we adjourned to the bedroom for some tv viewing, beginning with "Boys Don't Cry," then Star Trek: TNG, and ending up with "Mommie Dearest..." a rather interesting and eclectic blend for Mother's Day. Somewhere in the midst of this crazy mix, we broke out the most frightfully delicious cake for dessert, some sort of light chocolate-filled, strawberry and creme something or other...clearly an item which should be illegal by virtue of its ability to drag even the staunchest stoic into the irretrievable depths of hedonism. Mmmmmmmm, such utter yumminess. To complete the picture, Don made chocolate martinis to go with the cake...as if we weren't already steeped in a state of Bachian bliss.

All this came after a week of weird body rhythms for me, complete with crazy sleeping and eating patterns. Fortunately, this is the exception rather than the rule of things. Like any storm, it has passed. Today is the first day in a week when I have awakened feeling genuinely
rested. Other than spending the day in quiet reflection and relaxation, the only agenda for today is to meet Don at the day spa where I work this evening to give him a way overdue and much needed massage. He so deserves this.

A brief note about LJ: during the short time I've been a member, this place has shown remarkable promise in a variety of ways: as a forum for discussion, as a place to vent, as a means of rallying together for the support of someone in need or an important issue, as a springboard for artistic and/or humorous expression, etc. It is a delight to view representaions of humanity on such a scale as this. The best part of it all, though, is witnessing the unique and powerful bonds formed between members. My only wish is that we could somehow interact in person on some level.
