The Doctor's Office Part 2
May. 11th, 2004 10:20 pmThis morning we went for our appointment with Dominick to get our blood tests for our marriage license. As we entered his office the staff lit up and greeted us with genuine warmth and congratulory wishes. Soon Lana, the sweet Russian nurse, took us to a patient room where she took our vital signs, asked a few questions, and then congratulated us again as she left us to wait for Dominick. Moments later he arrived beaming and offered his congratulations along with warm handshakes. He has been our family physician for at least three of the nearly four years we've been together and it is for this reason that we chose to go to his office for testing...even though we could have gone elsewhere and paid less. As we visited with him and he appraised us of the requisite health counseling, we couldn't help but feel so blessed to have this doctor and his staff in our lives...people who show genuine appreciation and support for us. I must confess that several times today I got all misty-eyed just thinking about it. At one point, while Don and I were waiting for Dominick, I reminisced about how just over four years ago when I had just moved to Boston I had NO IDEA that I would be going to a doctor's office for yet another blood test...this time to get married to the love of my life. *BIG contented sigh* *misty-eyed grin*
Later in the day when someone greeted me and asked how I was I thought about it for a moment and then answered, with a great big grin, "Equal." Equal...the same...no differentiation...it felt GREAT to be treated as an EQUAL couple! WOO! HOO! EQUALITY TOTALLY ROCKS!
